Dorota Podsiedzik-Malec is a solicitor and member of the Warsaw Bar Association. She graduated from the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Law and Administration, and gained invaluable experience during her subsequent 2-year judicial apprenticeship.
She began her professional career at the Central Customs Office, where she managed cases such as those involving non-tariff restrictions in trade.
For 12 years, she worked with the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (“UOKiK”), where served as the Director of the Legal Department and before that at the post of deputy director of UOKiK’s Department of Market Surveillance, where among other things, she worked on investigations of the safety of certain products. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in applying Polish and EU regulations in competition and consumer protection cases, and has represented UOKiK in legal proceedings before courts of all instances.
As the Director of the Legal Department, she was responsible for finalizing UOKiK’s decisions in cases concerning: competition restrictions; violations of consumers’ collective interests; and concentrations. At all times, she was responsible for ensuring that the UOKiK President’s decisions were uniform. She also supervised the legislative process connected with creating draft legal acts, and was particularly involved in the extensive amendments to the Act on Competition and Consumer Protection of June 2014, and in drafting applicable executive acts for the Amendment.
For the past two-and-a-half years, Ms Podsiedzik-Malec was the director of the Department of Construction Products at the General Office of Building Control, where, among other things, she dealt with the control of construction products and administrative proceedings in that area, as well as with issuing administrative decisions on behalf of the General Inspector for Building Control. She also prepared clarifications for applicable regulations and technical requirements concerning construction products. Ms Podsiedzik-Malec has spoken at numerous conferences devoted to construction products and drafted amendments to regulations in that field.
